WHD: LAGOS URGES STAKEHOLDERS’ TO BUY INTO URBAN MOBILITY PROJECTS
Amid growing urban settlement challenge, Lagos authorities
have urged stakeholders to partner with the state government on projects that
will lead to effective urban mobility in the metropolis.
The call is coming on the heels of efforts by the united
nations system in Nigeria under the guidance of the un-habitat programme office
(HAPSO) to prepare urban profiles for three settlements, including ifako ijaye
in Lagos, as part of the UN- Habitat’s participatory slum upgrading programme
(PSUP), which is a vehicle for addressing the diverse challenges of slum
dwellers, including transportation.
Governor Babatunde Fashola who spoke at events marking the
2013 World Habitat Day, organized by the Lagos State government, noted that
Public Private Partnership is venture that has contributed to the rapid
development and growth of the state. “Each and very one us as individuals have
a part to play, whether it is by paying tolls or by partnering with the state
government on projects.”
